A hardware wallet is a physical device that stores your cryptocurrency private keys offline. Unlike software wallets or exchanges, hardware wallets keep your keys isolated from internet-connected devices, making them virtually immune to online attacks, malware, and phishing attempts.
Trezor uses multiple layers of security: your private keys are generated and stored entirely offline on the device, protected by a PIN code with randomized entry. All transactions must be physically confirmed on the device itself. Even if your computer is compromised, your funds remain safe because the private keys never leave the Trezor device.
During setup, you'll receive a recovery seed (12-24 words) that serves as a backup of your wallet. If you lose your device, you can use this recovery seed to restore your entire wallet on a new Trezor device or compatible wallet.
